Bacardi's Sandra Van Looy-Taylor isn't one
to say no to a challenge. When we offered her a ride in a
basic race at Littlehampton she jumped at the chance, took
her place alongside four times World Champion Pete Little
and they duly won the race. That was on flat water.
Sandra came back for more in Portsmouth on Saturday but it
was far from flat. Having had a rather hasty turnaround from
Pete Little and his navigator Dave Arthur's win in the final
of the V24 Championship, Sandra and Pete set off for the start.
With instructions from Sandra to 'get out there and win the
race', Pete needed no more encouragement. As the start boat
set off they were leading the large basic race fleet as soon
as the green flag went up. Choppy waters made for a fairly
bumpy ride with Pete trying to convince Sandra that the faster
he went the smoother it would be!
At an average speed of 67.34mph they were racing 7mph faster
than their nearest rival and even managed to lap the second
placed boat. Another commanding V24 win and one that Sandra
will not forget in a hurry!
