Four times world champions Pete Little and
Dave Arthur took the V24 Offshore Powerboat champions title
in superb form on Saturday (27 Sept). In a masterful display
of skilful driving they convincingly beat the rest of the
V24 fleet around a course with over 100 turns in it.
'With that number of turns it was a real driver's course
which suited us perfectly,' commented Little. 'It was hard
work but that's what racing is all about so we are thrilled
with the result.'
Having taken the chequered flag in true champion's style,
the new V24 Champions were then to discover that the RYA officials
had disqualified them on a technicality after the race.
'That was like a punch in the stomach after such a great
race,' explained navigator Dave Arthur. 'We obviously protested
and the disqualification was finally dropped but it should
never have been given in the first place. It certainly added
a note of drama to final stages of the championship!'
Fast, furious racing gave the crowds along Southsea seafront
heart stopping action particularly from the two chicanes on
the course which certainly 'sorted out the men from the boys'.
White Stuff's V27 finished the race over three and a half
minutes ahead of their nearest rival Ricky Hill and Alan Layton
in Colour Pro's V9. Having already had two wins, a second
and a third, this final win for Little and Arthur was a fitting
end to the season's racing.
