for immediate release
Portsmouth navigator Alan Layton and his
driver Ricky Hill (V9) finished second in the V24 RYA National
Championship penultimate round today (Friday) closing the
gap on Championship leader Shelley Jory and Gavin Brown (from
Southampton). Pete Little and Dave Arthur (V27) took the chequered
flag in superb style gaining valuable Championship points
in the process.
Fast, highly competitive racing was the order of the day
in choppy, unpredictable seas off Southsea Castle. Today's
placings have left just 100 points between the top three boats
and with 400 points to the winner in Sunday's final V24 RYA
National race there is still all to play for.
Shelley Jory and Gavin Brown, out on the water for the first
time since their dramatic accident in the Cowes Classic, were
slightly disappointed with their fourth place but it has kept
them as the overall Championship leaders.
The V24s will be in action tomorrow (Saturday) in the final
race of the V24 Offshore Powerboat Championship with £5000
going to the series winners. Pete Little and Dave Arthur (V27)
lead this Championship and are just 116 points ahead of Jory
and Brown (V8). Layton and Hill (V9) are currently in 3rd
position. The tight course runs close to the shore and should
provide plenty of action for spectators on Southsea seafront
with the top three boats in such close contention for the
V24 crown.
V24 Racing starts at 11am on Saturday and 1.45 on Sunday off
Southsea Pier.
