18 August 2003 for immediate release The
huge roar of the V8 engined V24 offshore powerboats thrilled the massive crowds
at the Littlehampton Regatta on Sunday. Five of the one design V24 fleet took
part in Sunday's race alongside 5 other classes and scooped the top four overall
places. The Overall Regatta winner's prize went to V27 Bacardi Breezer with four
times World Champion Peter Little at the wheel and sponsor, Bacardi UK's Sandra
van Looy-Taylor, navigating for the first time. Little
showed just why he is a world class driver with a faultless performance, taking
the lead early in the race and never looking to loose it. Crowds on the beach
were treated to some fast, close racing with the next three V24s tussling for
places on every turn. Second place was taken by ColourPro's V9 (Ricky Hill and
Helen Hughes) who attacked every mark in superb style to work their way up the
field. Aggressive driving from Poole's Richard Carr and navigator James Sydenham
in V69 gained them 3rd place over Southampton's Shelley Jory and Meridian TV's
Paul Belverstone who was thrilled by his first experience of offshore powerboat
racing. Local team David Langmead and Ian Summerfield,
from Chichester, in White Stuff's V24 were having their first taste of racing
and took a credible 6th place overall, giving them a great confidence boost for
their next race at Poole on 17 August.
