6 July 2003 for immediate release With
V8 Winging It Offshore throwing down the gauntlet in Saturday's V24 Championship
race, team strategies were in evidence for Sunday's RYA V24 National Race. The
decision to lighten their boat by carrying less fuel was tested to the limit by
V69 Agent Provocateur, Richard Carr and James Sydenham, and the resulting 'fuel
starvation' left them out of the racing having held 2nd place for the first third
of the course. Aggressive
driving from V9 ColourPro Ltd's Ricky Hill and accurate navigation by Alan Layton
gave them the edge over Shelley Jory and Gavin Brown, V8, enabling them to increase
their lead to 18 seconds at the chequered flag. Pete Little and Dave Arthur in
V27 Bacardi Breezer, started the race in close pursuit but a repeat problem with
the steering forced them to back off again and they remained just ahead of Charles
Gardiner and Ian Summerfield, who enjoyed their first race in WhiteStuff's V24.

Keith
Slater The Irish contingent's V1 Fem et Hom, driven
by Dermot Kearney with Neil Holmes as 'guest' navigator with the absence of his
usual partner John Ryan, made a huge navigational error running an additional
long leg. Despite this costing them places and points, did give Dermot more running
time in the boat which he had only taken delivery off this weekend.
