The first of the brand
new batch of stunning V24s made its maiden run at Torquay (24/25 May) with ex
Class One driver Richard Carr taking the wheel on Saturday and Ricky Hill, a regular
visitor to the 2 litre podium driving on Sunday. Both drivers will be racing in
V24 this season. Third place overall in the Formula Two class for Ricky Hill and
Alan Leyton was a very respectable result as they had not even sat in the boat
prior to the meeting!
'We have a visibility issue to sort
out but other than that the boat ran well with no technical or engine issues for
the whole weekend,' explains builder Mark Pascoe. 'I opened the hatch to look
at the engine after it had raced and it looked just as it had done when it left
the workshop which is excellent.'
The new V24 has undergone
many minor design modifications during production making this new boat even more
streamlined. Alterations internally have improved the safety as well as the aesthetic
appearance of the cockpit. Mark Pascoe's re-designed exhaust system makes the
most of the throaty sounds of the V8 engine.
Production
time on the new boats has been longer than expected due to the modifications.
However, as they say 'all good things come to those who wait' and, from the comments
of those who have tested the boat, the V24 is no exception.
More
V24s will be ready for Ramsgate (14/15 June) and it is anticipated that production
will be back on target by the Poole race weekend (16/17 August).
'We
are thrilled with the first new boat,' commented Charles Gardiner of V24 Powerboats
Ltd. 'It looks fantastic, sounds fantastic and when we have 10 boats out there
racing it will be a superb series. But these things do not happen overnight and
are not without their problems. It has taken longer than we had hoped to get the
first boats produced but the first priority is to build a great boat and that
is what Mark has done.'
Enquiries for new V24s are
being received from around the world including Australia and New Zealand and with
the prototype now completed, production is well on its way for this exciting new
one design series.
